Editorial standards
These guides cover money, tax and immigration decisions that carry real financial consequences. This page explains who writes them, the expertise behind them, how they are sourced and reviewed, and where their limits are.
Who writes these guides
Every guide is written by Rakesh Sinha, nri finance writer and a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and IIT Guwahati. He has personally navigated the decisions these guides cover: moving foreign salary and tech-company RSUs across borders, opening NRE, NRO and FCNR accounts, filing Indian returns as a non-resident, and claiming DTAA relief between the US, UK and India.
The authority in these guides comes from lived experience and specificity, not from credentials waved around. Rakesh names the section of the Act, the form number and the date a rule changed, because he has filed these returns and opened these accounts himself.
How we research and fact-check
Guidance is grounded in primary sources, not other blogs. Tax content is checked against the Income Tax Act and the Finance Act of the relevant year, CBDT circulars and notifications, and the income tax return utilities themselves. Banking and remittance content is checked against RBI Master Directions and FEMA regulations. Cross-border positions are checked against the text of the relevant Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement.
Every numerical claim is shown with a worked example whose arithmetic is checked end to end, so you can follow the calculation and adapt it to your own figures. Where the law is genuinely unsettled, we say so rather than papering over it.
How we review and update
Each guide carries a published date and a last-reviewed date. Rules in this area change every Budget and through the year, so guides are reviewed against current law and updated when a rate, threshold, deadline or form changes. When a guide is materially revised, the last-reviewed date is updated to reflect it.
If you spot something that has gone out of date or looks wrong, tell us and we will check it.
The limits of this information
These guides are educational and general in nature. They are not individual financial, tax, or legal advice, and reading them does not create an adviser-client relationship. Your residency status, country of residence, and the specifics of your situation can change the answer materially. Confirm the details that apply to you with a qualified chartered accountant, tax adviser or lawyer before acting on anything here.
